ILYMUN is officially back for 2025! This year is extra special – not just because of the theme Democracy and Security in a World of Conflict, but also because we’re returning to our iconic venue, the Hôtel de Région Montrochet.

Last year, logistic challenges kept us from hosting the conference there, but thanks to the ILYMUN community’s hard work, we were successful in securing the venue. Both Cité Scolaire Internationale and the International School of Lyon went above and beyond to keep the ILYMUN spirit alive. Now, in 2025, we’re back in a place that feels like home, ready for three unforgettable days: March 13, 14, and 15.

This year’s theme tackles a critical issue: the stability of democracy amidst rising conflicts and challenges. Delegates will debate in 10 committees, covering topics from media freedom to corruption, and from women’s representation to child trafficking. Highlights include debates on the Myanmar conflict, South Africa v. Israel, and youth in politics.

Behind the scenes, the organisation team is working hard. Sophia, Head of Chairs, explained that her team has already recruited and trained chairs, written research reports, and prepared committees. They’re now ensuring the chairs are well-trained and ready to engage delegates with backup resolutions and resources. Abiel, Head of Housing, shared that his team is focused on accommodating visiting delegates through host families, youth hostels, and other options. Coordination between the two schools will be key in finalizing these arrangements soon. Elise, Head of Logistics, described her team’s efforts to handle all aspects of the conference’s logistics, from catering and storage rooms to placards and Wi-Fi. With many tasks already completed, they’re gearing up for a busy phase of preparation. Lastly, Philip, Secretary General, discussed his role in organising, coordinating, and bringing people together. For him, ILYMUN is about building connections and creating lasting memories, and he’s confident that his team’s hard work will result in a memorable conference.

As the conference approaches, the focus is on ensuring that every aspect of ILYMUN runs smoothly, from engaging debates to seamless logistics. ILYMUN is more than just a Model UN; it’s a platform for students to discuss real-world issues, challenge their perspectives, and hone their diplomatic and debating skills.
